The day before Christmas, the Veterinary board receives a positive A test result from a wild boar shot by a hunter. The senior official sends a deputy, inexperienced veterinary officer to the village to investigate the matter. The deputy officer frightened of failure, immediately takes action. The very first farm in Kimna village is home to the elderly and childless Ants and Minna. For the couple, their pets are a substitute for their missing children and loved ones. The veterinary officer offers villagers a choice – to have the animals disposed of or, while the animals are not yet sick, to make them meat for himself. In great distress, Ants calls Bratoslav and asks him to help him slaughter the pigs. Bratoslav is a veterinarian from Moldova, but his papers are not valid in the European Union and the man does not have a veterinarian work permit. He can do only low lever farm job. Bratoslav is nevertheless known among the villagers as a veterinarian and a very skilled and quick-handed slaughterer, who can always be relied on. The diligent veterinary officer, finding evidence of the presence of plague on one farm that matches the records, marks both that farm and all the surrounding farms as plague hotbeds. At the same time, Ants’ nephews arrive with their wives and children. The relatives have arrived for the annual obligatory holiday visit.
