Valga Central Square

Valga Central Square is located in the historic city center and connects the two parts of the town, Valga and Valka, into a unified whole. The square offers residents various opportunities for leisure activities, including street basketball and table tennis. Particularly popular features include the distinctive benches and the vibrantly designed children’s playground.

Next to the square stand St. John’s Lutheran Church and the oldest surviving building in Valga, the former county administrative building. From the square, it is easy to cross the former border point over the Konna stream into the town center of Valka in Latvia.

The Central Square was opened in 2018 (architects Gianfranco Franchi, Chiara Tesi, and Rea Sepping), and at the end of 2019 it received the annual award of the Estonian Association of Architects.
